Mr. Nilson
Philosophy
I believe getting to know students and how they learn as a teacher is crucial, however requires delicate attention. My philosophy relates to John Dewey’s theory of Progressive Education (1938), which suggests that students’ learning benefits greatly from social interaction, due to the positive effect it has on their self-esteem. This closely links with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs of which Esteem requires self-confidence and being valued by others. This is vitally important within a classroom because, when students’ esteem needs are met, they feel confident and see their contributions as important and valued by others.
